      WHAT IS AN
EVIDENCE MANAGER ?

    The responsibilities of the
evidence manager is to maintain any evidence and property that is brought into the Sheriff's Office.  When items are turned in they must be logged in and tracked through the Sheriff's Office's data base.  Items can either be placed for storage or sent to the crime lab for various forms of testing.  All evidence must be maintained until all court hearings, to including appeals, have been exhausted.  Once cases are completed, a prosecutor and a judge must sign indicating that the items can all be disposed of properly. Items to be destroyed are taken out to The Lake County Solid Waste Facility were they are buried.  Cases that involve drugs or weapons are handled with special destructions.  Any items that are turned in as found property must be advertised allowing people to come in and view the same.  Any items that are not claimed are sent to the county for the on-line auction.  We maintain evidence for cases that are handled in the Painesville Municipal Court, Lake County Common Please Court and the Lake County Juvenile Court.
