    2006 was another exciting year for the Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau.  In review the Bureau worked 159 cases, categorized as:

In addition a total of 34 CVSA Examinations were conducted.  Of these, 20 were for pre-employment purposes.  The remaining 14 were related to criminal cases.

 MAJOR CASES WORKED

 AGGRAVATED MURDER/ AGGRAVATED ARSON - This case involved a Perry Township female resident starting a fire inside her residence using gasoline after cutting her own wrists and leaving a suicide note. The fire caused the intentional death of her severely disabled son. The female was rescued from the residence and is currently incarcerated in the Lake County Jail awaiting trial  on charges  of murder and aggravated arson.

ATTEMPTED MURDER / AGGRAVATED ARSON / AGGRAVATED BURGLARY  -This case involved a home invasion in Perry Township that led to the residents neck being slashed with a sharp object numerous times. Around the same time frame K & S Body Shop in Painesville Township was completely destroyed by a fire of suspicious nature. The Business suffered a fire loss of over $1.5 million. A suspect was identified and interviewed. The suspect admitted to being the sole person responsible for both acts. Charges have been filed. The suspect is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail on an unrelated crime.

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY & KIDNAPPING - This case involved an armed robbery at the First American Cash Advance store, Painesville Twp. Oh.  Two males entered the business and held the two female clerks  at gun point as they stormed the counter. The two males fled with over $2,000 in cash. A possible suspect vehicle was stopped in Eastlake Oh. Where two of the four males in the vehicle fled on foot. The two fleeing males were subsequently identified and arrested. These four males along with a fifth male were determined to have been involved in an armed robbery which occurred in Eastlake Oh. day's prior. The stolen money from First American was recovered and four of the five males confessed to there involvement in the two armed robberies. All have been indicted and are awaiting trial.

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY - This case involved a male suspect entering the Family Dollar store in Painesville Township Oh, demanding money from the clerk while threatening the use of a firearm. The suspect fled the store with $382.00 in cash. The suspect was subsequently identified and provided a full confession to not only this robbery but also the robbery of two Marc's Discount store's, one being in Willowick and the other in Mentor during the same time frame. He pled guilty to the charges and is currently serving a six year prison sentence.

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY - This case involves a male suspect entering the Bacon Road, Painesville Township Convenient Food Mart, brandishing a large knife and demanding money from the employee's.  The suspect was arrested a short time later and subsequently provided detectives with a full admission and identified his accomplice who was also taken into custody. Both suspects were convicted and are serving prison terms.
