Stream Sign Project

Lake County is lucky to have a number of healthy streams and rivers.  Unfortunately many of these waterways remain nameless to most people.  By knowing the names of the streams we drive across every day in our communities,  citizens of Lake County will gain a sense of ownership and protectiveness.  We will take a more active role in protecting the stream once we know its name,  or realize that it crosses through our yards and our lives.  This project was started with a grant from the Cleveland Foundation, and the Lake County Stormwater Management Department provided signs and installation for the second phase of the project.  These Stream Signs will educate the public about damaging non-point source pollution issues such as erosion and sedimentation.  On a daily basis, Lake SWCD deals with erosion issues that cause sedimentation in our streams, rivers and ultimately the harbors and estuaries of Lake Erie.
