Welcome to the new Lake County Solid Waste District web page! We hope you'll find information that's of use to you here, and through the links provided to other web sites. Note, in particular, that the Ohio State University (OSU) Extension - Lake County site has the latest information on special collection events including:

The Lake County Solid Waste District (the District) was established in 1990 in compliance with Ohio's solid waste law (ORC Ch 343), HB 592. The District includes all 23 individual Lake County communities and is governed by its 7-member Policy Committee. The function of the Policy Committee is to develop strategies for waste management, to take the lead on 5-year County Solid Waste Management Plan updates, and to plan and oversee the special collection events.

Currently, the Policy Committee is chaired by County Commissioner Robert E. Aufuldish, and supported by Public Service, Solid Waste Coordinator, Chris Hodges. The following persons serve on the Lake County Solid Waste District Policy Committee:

Joel Lucia, Health Commissioner, Lake County Health District
Jeannette Crislip, Trustee, Painesville Township
David Enzerra, General Manager, Lubrizol Corporation
Elizabeth Hoffman, Citizen, Kirtland
Mary Ellen Abel, Citizen, Painesville

Chris Hodges, County Public Service/Solid Waste Coordinator, has management authority for all aspects of the Solid Waste District. He can be contacted at 350-2750. Albert Saari, County Sanitary Engineer, has responsibility for operations of the County's solid waste landfill on Blase Nemeth Road, Painesville Township. David Bradshaw is the County Landfill Manager.

Randy Zondag, Extension Agent at OSU Extension in Painesville, and Program Assistant Pat Meyer provide educational, technical and public outreach support to the District.

The Business Waste Reduction Committee

The Business Waste Reduction Committee (BWRC) is a subcommittee of the Solid Waste District Policy Committee.

Statement of Purpose:

Serving businesses and citizens of Lake County by facilitating waste reduction, reuse and recycling in the private sector, with the goals of profit improvement, the efficient use of resources and, ultimately, a cleaner environment

Chaired by local businessman David Enzerra of Lubrizol Corporation, the BWRC finalized its strategic plan in 2001.
