FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The Lake County Veterans Service Commission (VSC) provides EMERGENCY financial assistance on a TEMPORARY basis to eligible veterans and their dependents for basic living expenses such as:
The program is not intended to used on a month to month or extended basis and is provided to those who make a conscientious effort to find a permanent solution to their financial problems. Whenever necessary and possible, we will attempt to help you find long term solutions for your needs. You may be asked and required to seek assistance from other agencies and may be denied assistance if you fail to do so. While you may request help for a specific need, the Lake County Veterans Service Commission will determine what assistance may be granted: the VSC is the sole and final decider. Each application shall be determined on its own merits in accordance the intent of Chapter 5901 of the Ohio Revised Code and pursuant to the policies and procedures as established by the Lake County Veterans Service Commission. HOW TO APPLY FOR ASSISTANCE Appointments are REQUIRED to apply for financial assistance. Please call (440) 350-2904/2567 for more information or to arrange for an appointment. Whenever possible, please schedule your appointment as soon as you believe you may need assistance. For example, please call BEFORE your electricity is disconnected as it may be 2 weeks or longer before an appointment is available. Your appointment should take a minimum of one hour; please plan accordingly. Whenever possible, we ask that you do not bring young children to the appointment. You will be mailed an application packet which includes more information, an application, and the required documentation which you MUST provide. You may also download the application packet.
